Jody Marshall and Friends
Lilting jigs, rollicking reels, three-part harmony vocals, knock-your-socks-off arrangements, and a whole lot of fun – including a bit of Halloween frivolity - will be on tap when hammered dulcimer wizard Jody Marshall, soulful songstress Carey Creed, fiddlin' fiend Jim Queen, and prodigious pianist Paul Nahay bring their talents to the HomeSpun Coffeehouse. All four musicians have been mainstays of the Washington, DC-area folk scene for longer than they care to admit!
Jody Marshall was a founding member of the popular folk trios, Ironweed and MoonFire, and also performed extensively with the award-winning ensemble, Connemara. Renowned as a masterful hammered dulcimer player and teacher, she also plays piano and brings a keen sense of harmony to her backup vocals. The Washington Post describes Jody's music as "lovely, lively, and shimmering."
Carey Creed has won multiple Wammie awards from the Washington Area Music Association. A versatile vocalist, she has been known to perform everything from folk ballads to gospel songs to jazz standards, as well as well-crafted songs of her own creation. Carey also plays piano, guitar, and various hand-held percussion thingies.
Paul Nahay is an accompanist extraordinaire. Whether he's backing a beautiful ballad from Carey, rockin' a duet with Jody and her dulcimer, or duking it out with Jim and his fiery fiddle, Paul's artful piano playing is the group's rock-solid foundation. Paul is also a composer and arranger, and lately he has been busy arranging everything from holiday favorites to pop classics for choral groups.
Jim Queen is a 30-year veteran performer with the Air Force Band. He has performed worldwide and in almost every state, and has played for presidents, heads of state, and luminaries in every field. He has played just about every fiddle style in the book, but has a particular love for Celtic and old-time fiddle tunes. You may have seen Jim a time or two playing with his Celtic band, Iona.
