Contra Dance

Summer Break!

SMOBAs usual, we are taking the months of July and August off for travels and adventures. We will all return in September with new stories and dances to share. In the meantime, check out these links:

For a complete listing of scheduled Contra dances in the Washington DC area go to: Contradancers.com

Contra is a traditional American style of social dance and is a huge amount of fun (and exercise) for the whole family! If you've ever danced a Virginia Reel or been to a Square Dance, you have a good idea how much fun it can be. If you haven't, it's about time you tried it! Beginners are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 to get some instruction in the various dances.

Christ Church Hall, Chaptico MD
January 24th

The Bushmill Band began circa 2006 as a few friends getting together to learn and enjoy playing the great folk, bluegrass and old time country tunes that they all loved.  They found they enjoyed playing this music so much they wanted to share it with others and began playing out and around just for fun.

      Bushmill Band

The Bushmill Band music is hard to categorize as they play traditional bluegrass but also nineteen sixties era folk music as well as old time and more contemporary country and folk music with their own spin on all of it.  What comes through on all of their music is the joy they find in playing and the repect they have for the music.

The band features John Garner on guitar, harmonica and vocals; Ted Yeatman on guitar, banjo and vocals;  Randy Stillwell on dobro;  Anniejean DiDonato on fiddle and Greg Penk on vocals and stand up bass.

The doors open at 7:00 pm, and the music starts at 7:30 pm. Admission $7.00. Refreshments are available (donation requested). For more information and directions, go to www.smtmd.org.
