Saturday, October 8th
Caller: Ann Fallon
A Contra Dance, sponsored by Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance (SMTMD),, will be held at the Christ Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Rd, Chaptico, MD. The doors open at 7:00 pm and the dancing begins at 7:30.
Contra is a traditional American style of social dance and is a huge amount of fun (and exercise) for the whole family! If you've ever danced a Virginia Reel or been to a Square Dance, you have a good idea how much fun it can be. If you haven't, it's about time you tried it! Beginners are encouraged to arrive at 7:00 to get some instruction in the various dances.
Admission is $10 for non-SMTMD members; $6 for members (band members are free). No special clothing is required! You need to be comfortable, to move freely. There will be an ice cream social following the dance.
Concert: Friday, Oct. 28th
Jody Marshall and Friends
Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance is thrilled to sponsor a HomeSpun Coffee House concert featuring Jody Marshall and Friends, at the Christ Church Parish Hall, 37497 Zach Fowler Road, Chaptico, MD, on Friday, October 28, 2016. Lilting jigs, rollicking reels, three-part harmony vocals, knock-your-socks-off arrangements, and a whole lot of fun – including a bit of Halloween frivolity - will be on tap when hammered dulcimer wizard Jody Marshall, soulful songstress Carey Creed, fiddlin' fiend Jim Queen, and prodigious pianist Paul Nahay bring their talents to the HomeSpun Coffeehouse. All four musicians have been mainstays of the Washington, DC-area folk scene for longer than they care to admit! (more info...)
The doors open at 7:00 pm, and the music starts at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10 for members, $15 for non-members. Refreshments are available (donation requested).
