The purpose of Southern Maryland Traditional Music and Dance (SMTMD) is to preserve and promote the appreciation and performance of traditional and contemporary folk music and dance in American culture. Through sponsorship of concerts, dances, and activities, SMTMD enriches folk culture in the Southern Maryland region.

SMTMD is a non-profit 501 (c-3) membership organization.
